JSC member Riza resigns

Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) affiliated MP for Maafushi constituency Hussain Riza has today resigned from his post as member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). 

Although Riza confirmed this fact to Mihaaru News, he declined from providing reasons behind his decision. 

Meanwhile, a ceremony planned for tonight at the Supreme Court to appoint judges to the Criminal Court and Magistrate Courts has also been cancelled. 

Riza was serving on the JSC as a member from the People's Majlis. He was elected as JSC President on June 12, 2024. 

As JSC President, Riza has even recently spoken openly about the challenges faced by the Maldives' judicial system.
