Addu referendum: Provisional results to be announced at each ballot box

A senior Elections Commission official confirmed that provisional results from each ballot box will be announced at polling stations as counting progresses. The full provisional results will be released tomorrow night once all boxes are tallied. This announcement will be made in Addu, they said.

Elections Commission has stated that in the Addu Council Referendum, they will be announcing the provisional results from each ballot box at the location after polls are closed.

The referendum concerns the forming of separate councils in Addu's Meedhoo, Hulhudhoo and Feydhoo. 

A senior Elections Commission official confirmed that provisional results from each ballot box will be announced at polling stations as counting progresses. The full provisional results will be released tomorrow night once all boxes are tallied. This announcement will be made in Addu, they said. 

The official results will then be announced on Sunday, they added. 

Voting in this first referendum being held after the Referendum Act came into effect will be held from 8am to 4pm tomorrow. 

A total of 18 ballot boxes will be placed across three islands of Addu and Male'. This includes three boxes in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo each, five boxes in Feydhoo, and seven boxes in Male' for residents of these three islands who reside in the capital. 

As per the Elections Commission, there are 4,355 eligible voters in Feydhoo, 2,874 in Hulhudhoo, and 2,347 in Meedhoo. 

As the Elections Commission gears up to hold the referendum tomorrow, commission president Zahid and some other members are in Addu City now along with their teams.
