The burial of the couple found dead last night in Hithadhoo, Addu, has been
delayed as authorities have not yet decided whether to conduct an autopsy to
determine the cause of their death.
The deceased couple, found at their home near the Hithadhoo Tourism Zone
area, was identified as Ibrahim Abdulla, 60, of Kreynuge, Hithadhoo, and
Farahnaz Rasheed, 52, of Naares, Maradhoo, Addu.
It is understood that the police are consulting on whether to perform a
post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death. However, the family
has opposed the autopsy and requested that the bodies be released as soon as
possible. Due to the lack of a final decision, both bodies are being kept in
the mortuary of the Addu Equatorial Hospital. The police have not yet issued a
statement regarding this matter.
A person who entered the home following the news of the couple's death told
"Mihaaru News" last night that the two were found inside the room's
toilet. The witness said that the man sustained head injuries, and the woman's
body also had some injuries.
However, the police stated last night that, based on their initial
observations, they had not noted any suspicious circumstances. They did add
that the investigation is ongoing.
"It is highly likely that the man fell while doing some work, and the
woman died (from an electric shock) when she bent down to help him. Their heads
were touching. When people entered the house, there was no electricity,"
the witness recounted.
The couple had only moved into their newly built house a few days ago. As
the area is not yet connected to the main power grid, the house was being
supplied with electricity by a small private generator.
Some parties are currently speculating that the couple died due to the
effects of generator fumes.
