Yazmeed appointed JSC Vice President after Niyaz resigns

Yazmeed, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's representative on the commission, was appointed during yesterday's JSC session. He was appointed as a member of the JSC on 23rd February 2025.

Yazmeed Mohamed has been appointed as the Vice President for the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) after High Court Judge Mohamed Niyaz resigned from the position yesterday.

Yazmeed, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's representative on the commission, was appointed as Vice President of JSC during yesterday's session. He was appointed as a member of the JSC on 23rd February 2025.

Niyaz has been a member of the JSC since 11th May 2022, with him being appointed as the Vice President of the commission on 20th March 2024.

Of the 10 members that serve the commission, three of them are handpicked by the Parliament, which are the Speaker of Parliament, an individual chosen by Parliament and a member appointed by Parliament from the public.

The remaining seven members of the JSC are a representative of the President, the Attorney General, President of the Civil Service Commission, an elected lawyer and three judges from the three stages of courts.

Maafushi MP and PNC member Hussain Riza is the current President of the JSC.
