Teacher arrested for sexual assault on student

A local teacher has been arrested last night in Hulhumale' for sexually assaulting a female student at her own residence. 

Police have not disclosed any details regarding this case. However, a Police Media Official confirmed that they received reports in Hulhumale' last night of a person in a position of trust sexually assaulting a 13 year old girl. 

They confirmed that a 46 year old Maldivian man had been arrested in relation to this case, adding that the case is under further investigation. 

Mihaaru News reports that the arrested in this case is a male teacher at a Male' school. Although reports indicate that the teacher had gone to the student's residence to provide tuition lessons, this is not yet confirmed. It is also not known whether the child had been home alone at the time of the incident. 

As per reports, the incident was reported to Police by the student's family. At the time the incident was reported, the teacher had already left the student's residence, but was intercepted on the road and taken into custody.
