Fenaka Corporation has decided to send two new 1.8MW generators to Addu City in an effort to address ongoing electricity shortages.

The company said the two Cummins brand generators arrived in Male' last night and are now being prepared for transport to Addu.

Fenaka also said that an additional 1.6MW generator will be dispatched to Addu City soon.

Fenaka said it is working to find a permanent solution to Addu City’s ongoing power supply issues and is in the process of procuring another generator to ensure a stable and uninterrupted electricity service.

The connected islands of Addu City require around 12MW of electricity during peak hours. While 20 generator sets with a combined capacity of 26.8MW have been installed in Hithadhoo, several are currently out of service due to technical issues, resulting in frequent power cuts.

Residents have faced repeated outages for more than a year. In March, Fenaka sent a 1.8MW generator to help stabilise supply, and repairs to damaged units are ongoing, with some spare parts being sourced from abroad.

The delivery of the new generators comes ahead of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s scheduled visit to Addu City next week.
