As per this year's Presidential Address, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced last night that police services have been established in all Maldivian islands as of yesterday.
While speaking to residents of Laamu Gan last night, the President stated that R. Rasgetheemu was the latest island to have police services established.
"As of 5:15pm today, police services have been established in all the inhabited islands of Maldives. This was accomplished when police services were established at Raa Atoll's Rasgetheemu," said President Muizzu last night.
As was highlighted by the President, he had made the statement that all inhabited islands would have police services be established by the end of the year during his Presidential Address at Parliament this year.

"And so by the grace of the Almighty, this was achieved by us two months ahead of the promised date," said the President.
President Muizzu stated that when he was sworn in to office on 17th November 2023, there were only 17 islands that had police headquarters that were serving their respective residents. He went on to say that the practical work in building police headquarters is underway in 63 islands.
"Along with the signing and preparations of practical work at 36 islands, the work to build police headquarters at a total of 99 islands is currently underway. We will be awarding the work to build police headquarters to companies at an additional 39 islands within the remainder of the year as well," said the President.
"By the time this year ends, 138 new police headquarters projects will be underway."

As per President Muizzu, the aim of this government is to establish police headquarters on all inhabited islands by the end of the term. He also gave his assurance that it will be done.
President Muizzu went on to say that the government believes that police services are a basic one, and should be of good quality. He also said that when he took office, there were 66 islands that had no police services available to them.
