President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated last night that he will establish fairness and equality between the atolls and islands, and his current work is an effort to end the persistent discrimination.

The President began his Laamu Atoll visit on Monday. During his visit to Gan, President Muizzu spoke to the residents during a meeting.

He said that even though this is a large island in terms of size and population, and even though there were talks of policies to align development and population for years, no one was able to bring about such developments.

The President said that this is something the residents of Gan have always talked about and is quite true.

"My responsibility is to bring development to the people of Gan without discrimination and with fairness and equality. My hope is to make that a reality for my beloved citizens," said President Muizzu.

As per the President, playing favorites between atolls, various regions and islands has for some reason been an ongoing habit in the Maldives. He went on to say that he however, does not believe in it.

"I pledged to everyone that I would establish equality and fairness. To establish peace in the country. Peace cannot be established without equality and without being rid of discrimination," said President Muizzu.

And so, the President said his current efforts are to bring an end to the long-standing unfairness between the atolls, islands and regions. He also said that this can be seen even now.

"The residents of various islands and regions can believe this. I believe that establishing fairness and equality is a must," as was said by President Muizzu.

President Muizzu went on to say that it is his responsibility to bring about the development that citizens want as complete as possible, and that he would see this done.

HDC was awarded the work to build 100 housing units during last night's meeting in Gan. MTCC was awarded the project to develop Gan Regional Hospital to a tertiary quality of care.

Along with that, the Construction Ministry and MTCC also signed an agreement to build another harbor in Gan, along with starting the second stage in road development.
