President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced last night that many upcoming construction projects of the government would be awarded to private companies.
The President made this announcement while meeting residents of L. Gan during his ongoing visit to the atoll.
He stated that in the next ten days or so, many such projects will be awarded to multiple private companies.
According to him, the initiative is expected to drive economic expansion and channel project funds into private hands, benefiting a broad segment of citizens.
"We are awarding various projects related to my pledges to multiple small and medium businesses, and even larger companies. This includes schools, health centres, mosques, and several other projects," the President said.
The President also asserted that all pending bills from government companies will also be paid in full.
"This initiative will also ensure that when small and medium-sized businesses are paid for their work, many citizens will benefit financially. We aim to complete this, as well, within the next ten days," he said.
The President revealed that funds owed to private companies are currently at approximately MVR 2.3 billion.
He asserted that this administration is aiming towards enrichment of the public without resorting to printing money.
