Maldives National University (MNU) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) have signed an agreement to develop a resort and hotel school in Laamu Atoll Hulhimendhoo.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony held in Maamendhoo this morning, as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to Laamu Atoll.

President Muizzu signed the agreement, while MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed and MNU Deputy Vice Chancellor Raheema Abdul Raheem signed on behalf of their respective institutions.

Ministry of Tourism had awarded the project to MNU on November 10 last year, aiming to create an integrated facility that both serves tourists and trains professionals in hospitality and tourism management.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Muizzu said that a five star resort will be developed on the island alongside a world class training institute, describing it as a key step toward building local talent for the tourism industry.

“This project fulfills one of my presidential election pledges,” President Muizzu said.

President Muizzu said that it would benefit not only the island and the atoll, but the entire tourism sector as a whole.

The President noted that the project was assigned to MACL due to its proven success in resort operations.

MACL, in partnership with Singapore’s Changi Airport Services Company, currently manages Madifushi Private Island Resort in Meemu Atoll.
