EC estimates Addu referendum to cost MVR 700k-800k

An Elections Commission Media Official stated that the referendum is expected to cost between MVR 700,000 and MVR 800,000. The actual cost, however, will be known only after the referendum is completed, they said.

Elections Commission has stated that the Addu referendum will cost between MVR 700,000 and MVR 800,000. 

The Elections Commission is preparing to conduct a referendum next Saturday on separating Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo from Addu City Council to form individual island councils. 

If this comes to pass, then the Addu City Council will be overseeing only the islands of Hithadhoo, Gan, MaradhooFeydhoo and Maradhoo. 

An Elections Commission Media Official stated that the referendum is expected to cost between MVR 700,000 and MVR 800,000. The actual cost, however, will be known only after the referendum is completed, they said. 

According to the Elections Commission, 4,355 persons from Feydhoo, 2,874 persons from Hulhudhoo and 2,347 persons from Meedhoo are eligible to vote in this referendum. 

Three ballot boxes will be placed each in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, and another five in Feydhoo. Seven boxes will also be placed in Male' for persons from these three islands residing in the capital.
