The People's National Front (PNF), led by former President Abdulla Yameen, has opened applications for its permanent leadership positions more than a year after the party’s formation.

PNF announced that its National Assembly will be held on October 30, during which the elections for the party’s permanent positions will also take place.

The elections will include positions for President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary General, and Registrar, as well as 14 members of the party’s Senate.

Since its establishment in April last year, the PNF has operated with temporary appointees in these roles.

PNF was founded following internal differences within the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and the People’s National Congress (PNC) both initially led by Yameen. The split occurred after the coalition chose current President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as its presidential candidate.

After Yameen left PPM, many PPM members joined the PNC, and the PPM was later dissolved.
