Discussion with Egypt on expanding farming for food security

The Foreign Ministers of Maldives and Egypt sat down for a discussion on aiding in Maldivian food security and work that can be done with Egypt in the field of agriculture.

The Foreign Ministers of Maldives and Egypt sat down for a discussion on aiding in Maldivian food security and work that can be done with Egypt in the field of agriculture.

Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel is currently visiting Egypt, where he has met with the Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty. The Foreign Ministry has said that both individuals have discussed how both countries can further build on their relationship in various fields.

Minister Khaleel acknowledged and thanked Egypt for their efforts in building Maldives' human resourses, especially the education opportunities being provided by Al-Azhar University.

The minister said that discussions were held between the two countries that have been built on an Islamic foundation, regarding further building a relationship economically, through business, investment, bolstering health services, food security and agriculture.

"We also discussed cooperation regarding the field of tourism and promoting both countries, along with further strengthening the relationship between both nations on an individualistic level," as was said in the minister's statement.

The ministry said that the minister highlighted Egypt's important role in an international context to bring the war in Gaza to an end, and the recognition of the nation in their work to bring about freedom and an independent state for Palestine.

Along with this, the statement reads that the minister had welcomed Egypt's role in signing the ceasefire deal at the 2025 Gaza Peace Summit.

During this meeting, an official agreement was signed between the two countries in further building the political relationship between the two, with discussions held to facilitate a path towards that end.
