President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the government is taking steps to ensure healthy food is readily available at affordable prices.

Marking World Food Day, the President said in a post on social media that efforts to discourage the use of tobacco and vape products are part of a broader strategy to promote healthier eating and drinking habits.

He added that maintaining nutritious diets is a top priority for achieving a disease-free society and ensuring the health of children.

“The government will continue to raise awareness about these issues at the national level,” he said.

The import of vape products has been banned in the Maldives since November 15, following a ban on their use that began on December 15 last year.

The Doctors’ Association has recently called for concessions on the sale of fruits and vegetables to make healthy food more accessible.
