Once the development of Shaviyani Atoll Funadhoo Airport will be completed, night flights are scheduled to begin by December, MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed said last night.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the runway expansion and upgraded airport services during a ceremony last night.

Addressing the event, Shareef said the main goal of the project is to enable flights to operate at night, which is especially important for transporting patients and increasing connectivity across the atoll.

Shareef added that the airport will be developed to accommodate tourists from nearby resorts, with facilities including a lounge, restaurant, and luggage belt.

The airport opened in 2020, currently has a 1,200-meter-long, 30-meter-wide runway, a 90-meter taxiway, and a 150-meter apron to support aircraft operations.
