The government has signed an agreement with Atheon Pvt Ltd to construct a 30-tonne ice plant in Shaviyani atoll Komandoo.

A significant number of youth in Komandoo are engaged in fishing, including tuna fishing, but fishermen currently face difficulties due to the lack of ice supplies nearby.

Establishing an ice plant in the island was among President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledges to resolve the issue and reduce the need to travel long distances for ice.

The agreement was signed during President Muizzu’s recent visit to Konamdoo as part of his Shaviyani Atoll tour. Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam signed on behalf of the Ministry, while Executive Director Kiyashath Abdullah signed for Atheon Pvt Ltd.
