Registration has been opened for people who are not in their native islands but still want to vote regarding the opinion poll whether Addu Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo and Feydhoo should have separate councils.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu decided that the opinion poll regarding whether Addu Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo and Feydhoo should have separate councils will proceed under the Public Referendum Act.

Those who want to re-register can do so via EC's re-registration portal or through My Portal.

Only residents from Addu Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo and Feydhoo can register and vote.

During last year's Parliament election, the EC had publicized the registration locations for eligible voters from Addu Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo for the opinion poll.

As per the list, 4,355 people from Feydhoo are eligible to vote, with 2,874 people from Hulhudhoo and 2,347 people from Meedhoo being eligible to vote.

Voting Details:

  • Residents of Feydhoo who registered to Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo for the vote will have to cast their votes at Hulhudhoo / Meedhoo.

As per the EC, those who had not registered to their native islands who are living in Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale', aside from Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, have had their registrations changed to their permanent addresses.

The EC has publicized a list of voters registered to ballot boxes. Voters can also check their registered ballot boxes via SMS.

  • Three ballot boxes in Addu Hulhudhoo
  • Three ballot boxes in Addu Meedhoo

President Muizzu had amended the questions regarding the opinion poll whether three Addu islands should have separate councils via a resolution.

The question regarding whether Addu Hulhudhoo and Addu Meedhoo should be jointly governed under a single body, the Addu Hulhumeedhoo Council, was omitted via the first resolution. Under the new resolution, the opinion poll will see whether residents want a separate council for all three islands, namely Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo and Feydhoo.

The election will be held on 25th October, Saturday from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
