The migration projects of Th. Vandhoo residents to Dh. Kudahuvadhoo is now underway.

Kudahuvadhoo Council President Jadullah Hameed stated that the council took the initiative regarding the migration due to Vandhoo residents expressing their interest.

During the meeting that occurred between the Kudahuvadhoo Council, Vandhoo Council and Vandhoo residents on 22nd September, it was deemed that the project can move forward, with discussions to take place with the relevant institutions.

Vandhoo Council Secretary General Yoosuf Ameen stated that Kudahuvadhoo had proposed people from Vandhoo be given the choice of picking Kudahuvadhoo if that is their wish.

The Vandhoo Council has decided that they will meet with the residents in order to gather their opinion on the matter.

Vandhoo has 398 people registered to the island. However, the population of the island is lower than the registered number.

When talks started regarding the migration of Vandhoo residents, Kudahuvadhoo had been working on becoming a city-grade island by increasing their population.

As a first step, Kudahuvadhoo had started a housing project that allowed non-residents to make purchases.

Kudahuvadhoo currently has 3,600 permanent residents. However, there are a lot more people living on the island compared to other islands.

Jadullah had told Mihaaru News in the past that Kudahuvadhoo has more than 5,000 people living on the island. He also stated it is the council's aim to increase the population to 10,000 in the near future.
