President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that MACL will be bringing three dredgers this year to help them with the land reclamation projects that they have been handed.
President Muizzu is currently visiting Shaviyani Atoll. He visited Komandoo last night and met with the residents at a conference, stating that criticisms have been voiced by some who are opposed to the land reclamation projects at various islands.
In response to that, the President said that all the actions of the government have a plan behind them and that the land reclamation projects will move simultaneously.
President Muizzu also highlighted that reclamation projects at some atolls have been handed to MACL, and that preparations have been made.
Dredgers being brought in by MACL
- An 11,000 tonne dredger will be brought in by the end of the month.
- A 40,000 tonne dredger will be brought in within the third week of November, with it working on Rasmale'.
- The third dredger will be brought in within December, with it working on the HA. Dhidhdhoo project.
As per the President, the third dredger will begin work on Haa Atoll after land has been reclaimed for the airports at Shaviyani Atoll. The President also said that after reclamation work has been finished at Shaviyani Atoll, unfinished projects at Male' Atoll will follow.
Along with that, the President also said MACL has signed an agreement with another company in order to complete the Male' region projects. President Muizzu stated that that company will also bring in dredgers.
