President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that many more projects will be initiated in Sh. Foakaidhoo, following the groundbreaking for the island's Islamic Centre today.
The foundation stone for the Islamic Centre to be built in Foakaidhoo was laid today during the President’s ongoing tour of Shaviyani Atoll.
The foundation stone was laid by the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.
The construction of the Foakaidhoo Islamic Centre has been contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The project includes:
- A prayer hall with a capacity for 700 people.
- A multi-purpose hall with a capacity for 300 people.
- Three classrooms and a library.
The project is valued at MVR 25.41 million and is slated for completion within a period of one year and nine months.
President Muizzu also highlighted several other projects planned for Foakaidhoo:
· Developing the health center.
· Constructing a futsal field and a handball court.
· Including the construction of a new school building in next year's budget.
· Starting a housing project on the island next year.
· Developing the designated swimming area, this has already been contracted to MTCC.
· Signing an agreement for the development of major roads.
· Commencing the construction of the Foakaidhoo Police Station building.
