Heavy rain since last night has caused flooding in parts of Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, damaging several homes, according to the Thinadhoo City Council.
In a post on Facebook, the council said floodwaters had affected various areas of the city and some houses had sustained damage.

The council said it was working with relevant authorities to coordinate a response, although details of the damage have not yet been released.
Videos shared on social media show water entering homes and damaging household belongings.
Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Southern Area Command has been deployed to assist those affected in Thinadhoo and nearby Madaveli, where flooding has also been reported.

Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has forecast severe weather across the country over the next four days.
A white alert was issued for the northernmost atolls, while a yellow alert was in effect for Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu from late last night until 7 am today.
