Police have today appealed to the public to be caution regarding the weather, as the seas around the Maldives is forecasted to become rough starting tonight.

Police stated that the appeal follows a forecast from the Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) predicting strong winds, rough seas, rain, and the potential for swell waves during high tide, particularly in the Southern and Central atolls. They urged the public to be vigilant and take precautionary measures.

The MET Office has forecasted that the weather across the Maldives will remain poor from today until next Friday.

Police further requested that those traveling by sea, including ferry operators and passengers, pay close attention to the weather alerts issued by the MET Office and seek the latest related information.

- Those traveling by sea, ferry operators, and travelers should avoid sea journeys during periods of strong winds and rough seas.

- Before undertaking essential journeys, obtain the latest weather information and ensure that safety equipment is readily available.

- Drivers of land vehicles should be cautious of wet roads and reduced visibility during rainfall, as these conditions increase the risk of accidents from skidding or poor visibility.

Police confirmed that to prepare for various incidents that may arise due to the weather, the authority has coordinated with other relevant institutions to ensure a collaborative response.

The MET Office reported that tonight, winds in the Northern atolls are between 10 to 20 miles per hour from the West and Northwest. Winds in the Southern and Central atolls are between 12 and 23 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 45 miles per hour across all areas during squalls.

The MET Office concluded that seas across the entire Maldives are expected to be rough tonight.
