Ibrahim Riffath, the former Attorney
General during the last MDP administration, has also been summoned to appear before
the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih
(Ibu) stated in a post on X that Riffath has been ordered to appear for an ACC
investigation, expressing his concern over the matter.
Solih alleged that this is part of a
series of actions driven by the government's political influence over
independent institutions, aimed at intimidating members of the MDP.
"I appeal to the ACC leadership
not to engage in such acts that compromise public trust due to political influence," the former President stated.
The summoning of Riffath comes after
the ACC also summoned the former Minister of Finance, Ibrahim Ameer, and the
former Minister of Economic Development, Fayyaz Ismail, for questioning in
connection with an investigation into alleged corruption concerning
compensation paid to the company Swift Engineering during the previous MDP
government.
The former Minister of Education,
Aishath Ali, has also been instructed to appear before the ACC.
The summons order for Fayyaz Ismail
stated that he is suspected of having abused his official capacity as a member
of the Dispute Resolution Committee in 2019 to provide undue compensation to
Swift Engineering, thereby securing an undeserved benefit for the company.
The ACC further alleges that this
action resulted in a course of action that was contrary to one that would have
been beneficial to the state.
