The practical work on the planned
Sh. Bilehfahi Airport has been officially handed over to Maldives Airports
Company Limited (MACL), and the project's work resumed today.
During the previous government led
by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the land reclamation for the airport,
an area of 56.34 hectares, was awarded to MTCC. However, that administration ended
without results.

At that time, the Bilehfahi Airport
was planned under a cross-subsidy model. Although efforts were made to begin
the land reclamation and the practical airport work during that period, the
work was never successfully started.
Today, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
visited Bilehfahi as the fourth island on his current tour of Shaviyani Atoll.

During the President's visit, the
agreement for both the land reclamation required for the Bilehfahi Airport and
the operation of the airport was signed by State Minister of Finance Husham Ali
and MACL Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef.
The practical work on the airport
was officially commenced by Ibrahim Shareef (MD of MACL), alongside the
Minister of Local Government Adam Shareef and the Bilehfahi Council President.
