Laboratory services will be available in all islands of the Maldives by the end of next year, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced today.

The previous government began building laboratories across the islands, but not all were completed, and many of the existing facilities lacked sufficient resources.

President Muizzu made the announcement during his visit to Noomaraa, the first stop on his tour of Shaviyani Atoll, emphasizing that the government prioritizes the health sector.

Noting the requests from island health centers for laboratory services, the President said the government aims to complete laboratories in all islands within two years.

“We have to establish laboratory services in all the islands of the Maldives within two years—this year and next year,” he said.

He added that the existing laboratory in Noomaraa will be upgraded with necessary facilities, ensuring that all essential tests can be conducted at the island level.

President Muizzu reaffirmed that his government would fulfill its promises and more, as he continues his tour, which will cover 14 islands in the atoll, concluding on Thursday.
