Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib stated today that considering the
number of flats that must be provided to people who scored 76 points in the Gedhoruveriyaa
housing scheme but were excluded from the draw by the previous government, it
might become necessary to change the flat allocation for recipients who scored
75 points to a two-room flat.
A previous issue surfaced where some applicants who scored 76 points in the Gedhoruveriyaa
scheme under the former government were excluded from the draw, while a draw
was held for applicants who scored 75 points, and flats were allocated to them.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President's Office today,
Minister Muththalib said that the former government had allocated three-room
flats to 315 people who scored 75 points, while 330 people who scored 76 points
or above were not allocated any flats.
"Allocation was made for 315 people who received 75 marks. This is one
of the biggest problems we have faced recently," Muththalib said.
To resolve this issue, the current government previously held a draw to
allocate flats to those who scored 76 points and had been excluded from the
initial draw.
However, the Minister explained that after securing three-room flats for all
those recipients, there are no longer enough three-room flats remaining to be
allocated to all the individuals who scored 75 points and were previously
promised a three-room flat by the former government.
The Minister said that while they tried to provide three-room flats to all
76-point recipients and also to the 75-point recipients, the lack of available
flats means the remaining individuals who scored 75 points might have to be
offered two-room flats.
"We will be able to provide an opportunity for all parties. However, we
might have to give the option of a two-room flat to some of the 75-point
recipients. We are proceeding this way because we believe it is the fairest
approach," Muththalib stated.
However, he assured that no recipient who scored 75 points will be left
without a flat.
"I can now confirm that those who scored 75 points will receive one
option, either a three-room or a two-room flat," the Minister said.
The Minister noted that some individuals who scored 75 marks have already
requested a two-room apartment. He added that if they express a desire for it,
the agreement for flat handover can be signed right away.
"If they wish for it, we can proceed with the agreement right away,"
Muththalib said.
The Minister also mentioned that when the current government came into power,
a decision had been made to give 100 flats to Customs employees, and a draw had
already been held to determine the specific units they would receive. This
allocation included 83 three-room flats and 12 two-room flats.
Muththalib's statement comes after the government previously filed the
issue, of 75-point recipients being allocated flats while 76-point recipients
were excluded, with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The project, which is being carried out by two Indian companies, includes
two-room and three-room flats. The two-room flats are leased for MVR 7,000,
with a maintenance fee of MVR 1,000 and a security deposit of MVR 15,000. The
three-room units are set to be leased for MVR 9,500, with a maintenance fee of
MVR 1,500 and a security deposit of MVR 25,000.
Agreements are being signed and security deposits are being requested in the
order that the flats are completed. Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) stated
that so far, 3,140 people have completed the signing.
According to information shared with Mihaaru News by FDC regarding the
flats, a total of 1,731 people were instructed to pay the advance deposit as of
last Thursday. The company noted that 1,273 of those individuals have already
made the payment.
The first flats to be handed over were to the recipients of Tower 14 of
Amaan Udhares. The flat handovers are being conducted by dividing them into
zones, and key handover schedules are arranged through the FDC portal.
