Former Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer, who served under the Maldivian
Democratic Party (MDP) government, was summoned today by the Anti-Corruption
Commission (ACC) for questioning regarding an ongoing investigation.
Following Ameer's appearance at the ACC, a number of MDP supporters gathered
in front of the office to protest, carrying various posters.
Ameer criticized the ACC President, Adam Shamil, and the commission members regarding
the summons. He asserted that his tenure as Finance Minister from 2019
to 2023 was marked by honesty and loyalty.
"I never misused my official capacity to cause any financial loss to
the state. Every decision made and advice given during my ministerial term was
aimed at safeguarding the state from significant losses and ensuring its
benefit. I am personally confident in this," he stated.
Ameer went on to accuse the ACC President and members of attempting to
"unfairly framing individuals" to protect their own jobs.
Consequently, he demanded that they cease these activities. He also stressed
that he is "completely unfazed" by any attempts to "intimidate
him" through appearances at the ACC and the police for matters he believes
are baseless.
Ameer's summons to the ACC follows the issuance of a notice to the former government's
Economic Minister and current opposition MDP Chairperson, Fayyaz Ismail,
instructing him to appear at the commission tomorrow morning at 9:30.
