CCR has stated that they have begun solar energy production after two weeks of testing.

CCR also stated that they can now utilize solar energy that will give them 8 hours worth of electricity daily.

Veligandu Resort began their work to create a solar energy system in July 2024. The project was spearheaded by Austrian company Swimsol.

3,003 solar panels are in use at the resort under this system. The panels are able to produce 1,441 kilowatts (kW) of energy.

CCR has said that with the use of this system, the daily release of 4,750 kilograms of carbon dioxide will see a decrease.

Veligandu Resort General Manager Fathuhulla Ibrahim said that this is a progressive step in their work towards developing sustainable tourism.

"On a day the weather is good, the entire island can run on solar energy. The electrical generators we normally use can be turned off for 8 hours. This is something we didn't think was possible a year ago," said the GM.

As per CCR, the aim moving forward is to become a resort that operates purely on solar energy.
