Fathimath Shaya Zaheer, Aishath Shaba, and Ahmed Shaim Riza have won first place in the 37th National Quran Recitation Competition.
A total of 1,037 participants from 119 institutions took part in this year’s competition, held from September 19–26.
Of them, 582 competed in the recitation off text category, 424 in the recitation from memory category, and 31 in the Hafiz category.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu presented the awards to the winners at a special ceremony held today.

The winners received the President’s Plaque of Honour, a cash prize of MVR 100,000, and special scholarships for PhD studies in any field from any country.
They were also presented with additional prizes, including MVR 75,000, certificates and trophies from the Islamic Ministry and National Centre for the Holy Quran, Maldives Zakat House and the Islamic Development Fund, and an Umrah trip sponsored by Maldives Hajj Corporation.
