President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated today that it used to be a custom in Maldives for people to recite the Quran in between Magrib and Isha prayers, and that the custom needs to be restored.
During the prize giving ceremony of the 37th National Quran Competition, President Muizzu stated that the custom observed by family and children is almost non-existent. The President said that this was caused due to people becoming busy and various other reasons but that it is not a good thing.
"Time is short. Everyone is busy doing things such as making a living, teaching children or playing sports and so much more. However, we need to make time for what is most important," said President Muizzu.

The President went on to say that priority should be given to the practices of Islam and reciting the Quran. He also said that if people are to become complacent, society will not be a joyous one.
"And so we need to prioritize and revive these beautiful customs. We need to make time to recite the Quran between the times of Maghrib and Isha prayers," said President Muizzu.
The President also said that the Quran should not only be recited between that time.
He requested school leaders and parents to utilize the available systems for children to read the Quran in a proper manner. He also requested to be attentive in prayers and to pray at mosques whenever possible.
