Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu has announced that a campaign to train teachers to use AI tools in teaching all subjects is to commence next year.
The minister made this announcement while speaking at the inauguration of the Principals' Conference in Crossroads Maldives today. The conference was inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

Minister Shafeeu added that without fostering critical thinking, few students would pursue meaningful paths after finishing school.
The minister said that as schools equip students with life skills, it is vital to nurture curiousity and thinking, adding that teachers must be trained to foster these traits.
With the aim of achieving this, the ministry is preparing to introduce a training for teachers in the AI field next year, he announced.
The minister said a major campaign will be launched next year to train teachers in AI. Professional development initiatives have been planned for Ramadan, including training sessions on using AI tools to teach various subjects and build technical skills.

The minister has spoken about incorporating AI into teaching previously as well. He said then that the world embraces rapid technological change, Maldives must prepare its future generations to be tech-savvy.
