Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail to appear before it on Monday, by 9:30 AM.
According to the summons, Fayyaz is accused of abusing his official position as a member of the Dispute Resolution Committee in 2019. Specifically, the ACC alleges he provided inadequate compensation to Swift Engineering and obtained an undue benefit for the company. The commission further alleges that this action was detrimental to the state, resulting in a matter that should have benefited the state acting otherwise.
Swift Engineering is owned by Thinadhoo North district PNC MP Saudullah Hilmee.
After receiving the order, Fayyaz posted on social media, denying that he abused his official position to the detriment of the state. He also expressed skepticism, stating he did not believe the ACC would conduct a fair investigation.
"The past two years have been when the Muizzu government completely undermined the state surveillance system," Fayyaz wrote. "It is very clear to the people that those in responsible positions are doing what Muizzu orders to secure their jobs."
Fayyaz added that the importance of independent institutions being "really liberalized" is now clear. He concluded by asserting that even if the entire state is used to intimidate and imprison everyone, the people will not be deterred in their efforts to build a democratic country and ensure their basic rights again.
