Buoys have been installed at Hulhumale' Channel Park, which connects Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Hulhumale', to prohibit access to vessels.
Housing Development Corporation (HDC) said the area is restricted for engine powered vessels, and the buoys along the west side of the channel mark the boundary.

HDC noted that the Channel Park is often used by children and adults for swimming and is part of a coral regeneration project as well.
Vessels were banned to ensure swimmer safety and protect coral growth.

The area had previously seen activity from jetskis and other vessels used for sea sports, raising concerns over dangerous vessel operation.
Environmental Regulatory Authority (ERA) and Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI) launched the Coral Garden Project at the site on 22 July.
