A specialized retina laser treatment for premature babies has been launched at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to protect their vision.
Male’ City Group of Hospitals CEO Ibrahim Haleem announced the introduction of the service on X on Wednesday night, noting that arrangements have been made to provide the treatment at the earliest possible stage.
“This service will enable timely care for premature babies at risk of vision problems,” Haleem said.
Premature birth refers to babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy.
Such infants often require intensive care, including ventilator support for lung issues, antibiotics for infections, and inotropic treatment for heart function.
