Two arrested for holding man hostage, taking nudes for money

Police have arrested two men accused of holding a man hostage in Hulhumale', threatening him, and taking nude photos and videos to extort money.

The suspects; Mohamed Zameer, 29, from Seereen Manzil, Haa Alifu Atoll Filladhoo and Shahumeen Rasheed, 27, from Hithahfinivaage, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll Nadella — were arrested on Saturday in connection with the incident, which occurred on the night of September 1.

According to police, the pair allegedly held the victim captive inside a residence, threatened him with sharp weapons, forced him to undress, took photos and videos, and seized his phone and money.

Both suspects were brought before the court for a remand hearing. Shahumeen was ordered to remain in custody pending trial, while Zameer was remanded for 10 days.

Police said investigations are ongoing.
