The draw for the initial 4,000 Gedhoruveriya Scheme flats took place today for those who missed the first drawing round.
Held at the Housing Ministry, the event was broadcast live via state media (PSM) and the ministry's social media channels. Participant information was updated on the Gedhoruveriya portal in real-time as the draw was conducted.
The Housing Ministry announced today that the draw will determine the recipients of three-bedroom flats. The initial draw on November 16, 2023, was for two-room flats, which were awarded to beneficiaries who scored more than 73 points. Tomorrow's draw is for those who scored less than 76 points and were not part of the previous allocation.
The Ministry noted that this round will also include applicants who are receiving a flat after a spouse forfeited their unit, and other eligible applicants who have yet to be included in a draw.
Some applicants missed the initial draw because the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) ordered the allocation to be suspended due to fraud complaints toward the end of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government. No draws have taken place since then.
Currently, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has signed agreements and begun the key handover process for the 4,000 flats, but HDC has not yet permitted residency.
