President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced that the government will be submitting 27 bills to the ongoing session of parliament.
The President made this announcement while addressing residents of Mahibadhoo last night during his ongoing visit to Alif Dhaalu atoll.
Six of these 27 bills will focus on combatting corruption, the President said. This includes amendments to the Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism Act, Asset Recovery Bill, Criminal Procedure Act, Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Ac, Anti Corruption Commission Act and the Penal Code.
Another bill is a proposed amendment to the Constitution to enable concurrent Presidential and Parliamentary elections, which would also require the holding of a public referendum.
President Muizzu also emphasized that the Parliament is currently in the process of reviewing 18 bills.
The 27 bills include 12 new proposed laws, the President said. The bills aim to introduce essential legislative reforms to provide holistic solutions to national challenges, he asserted.
