PG withdraws three child sexual abuse cases

The state has withdrawn three cases concerning child sexual abuse. 

Two of the cases involve child sexual abuse by individuals in a position of trust, while the other concerns a sexual offence committed against a child within the family. 

With the lower courts having acquitted those accused, the State appealed the rulings at the High Court. This month, the State withdrew the three appeal cases stating that the incidents involved occurred several years ago, and that it had remained pending at the High Court for many years as well. 

The State's letter to the High Court also states that in two of these cases, the families of the victims also do not wish to pursue the cases anymore, according to the High Court's ruling. 

The High Court ruled to dismiss these three cases as requested by the State.
