Police have said that charges in connection with the murder of 65 year old AbduRahman Adam from Alifu Alifu Maalhos are being prepared for submission to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office.

Three suspects were arrested in August in relation to the fatal attack that occurred on July 12. They are:

  1. Mohamed Visham, 22, Lilyfehi, Maalhos
  2. Ahmed Faaris, 27, Finivaage, Maalhos
  3. Ahmed Aashid, 27, Fiya, Maalhos

Aashid was arrested in Male', while Visham and Faaris were detained from Maalhos.

All three were taken into custody on August 21. Visham and Faaris have been remanded pending trial, while Aashid’s remand has been extended several times, most recently for 30 days.

A police media official told Mihaaru News that the PG’s Office has been consulted on the case and the necessary steps are now underway to file charges.

AbduRahman was attacked while asleep at his wife Nazima Ibrahim’s home, Mahiya, during the early hours of July 12. He succumbed to his injuries soon after the attack, which was reported to police at 1:50 am.

Police later searched the homes of the three suspects and seized clothing belonging to one of them. The suspects were reportedly seen active on the island late that night, and one of them is said to have contacted a relative before the island community became aware of the murder.

AbduRahman’s wife told Mihaaru News she discovered him assaulted when she entered the room around 1 am to use the bathroom. The couple were alone at home at the time; their three children were in Male'.

Residents who visited the scene described a violent attack, saying blood was splattered across the room’s walls and ceiling.
