An appeal at High Court regarding a case concerning sexual abuse of child while in a position of trust has been withdrawn after the defendant suffered a stroke.
The High's Court case dismissal report notes that the incident took place over eight years ago and the appeal has remained unresolved for four years.
The defendant recently suffered a stroke, leading to paralysis, and is currently under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit, the report reads.
The victim's mother informed the Prosecutor General's Office that under these circumstances, they no longer wish to proceed with the case. The PG Office accepted this and applied to withdraw the case, the report says.
The three-judge bench of the High Court unanimously ruled to dismiss the case.
