Criminal Court has sentenced a woman to three years in prison for endangering a child's health while in a position of care.

The woman, found guilty of deliberately committing an act that could endanger the child's health while being in a position of care as per the Child Rights Protection Act, was sentenced on Tuesday, according to the court.

As the case involves a minor, the case report was not uploaded to the Criminal Court website. The court also did not disclose details of the incident the case refers to.

As per the Child Rights Protection Act, persons in a position of care for a child are generally parents, guardian or caregiver.

This is the first time that such a sentence has been issued under the Act which was ratified in 2020.
