A dangerous accident occurred in GDh. Thinadhoo yesterday where a child who was crossing the street alone was hit by a motorcycle being driven by a person without a license.

A Police Media Official said that the accident occurred near the museum on Aabaadhee Hin'gun, GDh. Thinadhoo. Police received reports of a speeding motorcycle hitting a six year old child.

The driver of the motorcycle was a Maldivian man, aged 21, who does not hold a driving license, Police said. He has now been taken into police custody.

The accident occurred around sunset yesterday. The injured child is receiving treatment at the Dr AbduSamad Memorial Hospital in Thinadhoo, with the hospital stating his injuries are not serious.

"There were some scrapes. One wound had to be stitched. He will be discharged today, his condition is stable," the hospital said.

Videos circulating on social media show a little boy crossing a road while carrying a cat. Before he reached the other side of the road, a speeding motorcycle crashes into him, with the boy and the motorist both being thrown on impact.

As seen in the video, there is a group of people near the boy when he attempts to cross the road by himself. It is unclear whether these persons were accompanying the child. When the accident occurred, the group rushes to help the child.

Thinadhoo Mayor Saudh Ali stated that trees had been planted on one side of the road where the accident occurred to prevent pedestrians from crossing mid-street instead of using the designated zebra crossing.

"There are trees planted on one side of the street because people cross from there. The child was attempting to cross from there when the accident occurred," Saudh said.

Saudh said that there is a zebra crossing just twenty feet away from the site of the accident.
