Shareef replaces Asim as Police Male' Area Commander

Assistant Commissioner of Police Asim Abdulla has been removed from the post of Male' Area Commander. 

A senior Police official confirmed to Mihaaru News tonight that Assistant Commissioner Abdulla Shareef has assumed the duties of Male' Area Commander, replacing Asim. 

They stated that Shareef had been appointed to the position yesterday. 

"Shareef returned to Male' two days ago. It was then that he was appointed," they said. 

Prior to this appointment, Shareef served as Head of Central Investigation Command. 

The Male' Area Commander has changed as opposition Maldivian Democratic Party is preparing to hold a major demonstration at 8:30pm tonight, commencing from the Artificial Beach area. 

Male' Area police and MNDF have commenced a special operation this afternoon in preparation for tonight's MDP protest. Police have announced that some streets in Male' City will be closed off to both traffic and pedestrians as this operation proceeds.
