ACC assured that the investigations will be expedited to the extent permitted by their technical and operational capacity.
ACC issued the statement following directives from the PG Office to report on the progress of investigations into individuals linked to the MMPRC corruption cases by next Wednesday.
To offer maximum support to ACC in their investigations into the cases, PG Office has set up prosecution teams to offer assistance to ACC around the clock. PG Office also said that they had instructed the ACC to involve Police in their investigations into members of the public who unduly benefitted from MMPRC corruption, so as to ascertain appropriate legal action is taken.
In January, the PG Office decided to revoke immunity and cooperation agreements signed with former Vice President Ahmed Adheeb, former MMPRC Managing Director Abdulla Ziyath and senior officials of SOF, the company which circulated the embezzled funds.
The immunity and cooperation agreements had been signed by the previous administration with the aim of advancing the investigation and recovering the stolen funds. Despite this, the PG Office said that investigative authorities had informed them that no cooperation had been extended to the investigation or fund recovery by these persons.
