Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has reported allegations of corruption amounting to MVR 200 million, linked to land, goods, and services, during the former Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration.

A statement issued by HDC tonight states that it has come to their notice that specific persons had misappropriated approximately MVR 200 million from land, goods and services under HDC between 2019 and 2023. They said that this is now being reported to relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.

HDC, however, did not name those they believe to be responsible.

According to HDC, the alleged corruption involves theft of corporate assets, unauthorized personal use of company property, and leasing land at terms detrimental to the company, amongst other concerns. They also noted that there has been sale of land conducted against the company's procedures and policies.

HDC stated that they will cooperate with investigations and taking necessary legal actions in regards to this issue.

While HDC has raised these concerns, recent audit reports have brought to light corruption involved in operations at WAMCO and Fenaka during the previous MDP administration. These issues are currently under investigation by relevant authorities.
