The Maldives Police Service has announced it will carry out exercises in Malé and Hulhumalé today and tomorrow, to check the readiness of the police.

The Maldives Police confirmed the exercises in a post on social media but did not share specific details.

However, photos have surfaced showing officers with shields blocking roads, apparently preparing for crowd control.

The MDP is organizing a large protest on Friday, with reports suggesting people from across the country coming join in. Police are concerned that the protest could lead to unrest and suspect that the MDP might use it to incite violence.

However, the MDP has strongly denied these claims.

Meanwhile, the MNDF Coast Guard has launched a special operation to check the safety of vessels. The move comes in response to a growing number of boats operating without proper licenses and ignoring maritime safety rules.
