Video of assault on boy sparks police investigation

Police have launched an investigation into the assault of a boy in a northern island of Maldives. The incident was brought to their attention through a video of the assault being circulated on social media. 

Police said that their Family and Child Protection unit and the Police Station of the island where the incident occurred are working collaboratively to investigate the incident. 

The video in question shows two boys, who also appear to be minors, attacking a younger boy. 

Police have called on the public to refrain from sharing the video, warning that doing so would revictimize the victim, deepen their trauma and compromise their dignity.
