Criminal Court has just sentenced former Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Ahmed Saeed to four years in prison.

Saeed was convicted of corruption earlier this afternoon, after the court found him guilty of abusing an official position.

Along with Saeed, then-Procurement Head Mariyam Dheena was charged as well, regarding the agreement made between Fenaka Corporation and Blazon Inc. Pvt. Ltd in 2019. The charge stipulates that Blazon Inc had been handed money for project completion while the project hadn't ended and an additional agreement having been signed before completion of the previous project.

The State asked for the minimum sentence to be handed to Saeed, which would have been one year, seven months and six days in prison.

Criminal Court Chief Judge Adam Mohamed in his ruling stated that although the State claimed there was no reason to increase the sentence, it can be done on the judge's prerogative.

The court served him with the harshest penalty for the offence, which is a four year prison term.

The Judge stated that corruption within State institutions has become a common occurrence.

He stated that it is rare to see those guilty of corruption being penalized appropriately. He said that the harshest sentence must be delivered so as to set a deterrent for others who may get involved in acts of corruption.
