President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that salaries for civil servants and other government employees who have not yet received a pay increase will rise from 1 November.
President Muizzu in a post on X, said the revision will cover all civil service employees, judiciary staff and council employees whose wages have not yet been harmonized.
“I have said during this year’s presidential statement that the salaries of these people will be increased. As I have already said, the salaries of all employees of all institutions whose salaries have not been increased this year will be increased in 2026.”
Pay harmonization for civil service employees and judiciary staff is included in this year's budget as well, with MVR 500 million allocated for it.
Most recent data published by the Civil Service indicates they employ 30,165 civil servants.
