During the ongoing UN General Assembly at New York, Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel warned yesterday that due to international law not being enforced on powerful countries, trust and confidence in international law is fading.
He expressed concern stating international law is not being applied on an equal basis regarding UN member nations.
With Israel repeatedly breaking international law, the Minister highlighted that the resolutions passed by the UN and the orders from international courts were being challenged.
"The sheer hypocrisy is this genocide is sustained by weapons and money from the very countries that claim to defend human rights. The same countries that helped define the very norms and laws being broken," said the Foreign Minister.
Minister Khaleel went on to say that turning a blind eye to the state of Palestinian Muslims and allowing Israel to commit crimes against humanity is "the biggest embarrassment of the century".
If power and influence is louder than the law, every attack that we've seen is evidence that no border is safe.Minister Khaleel
As per the Minister, the result of the world being unable to stop these crimes is Israel's attacks reaching Qatar, Syria, Jordan, Yemen and Iran.
"If power and influence is louder than the law, every attack that we've seen is evidence that no border is safe," said Minister Khaleel.
Minister Khaleel called for the equal treatment and use of the UN framework while speaking of the chilling possibility of a world where international law is not applied.
